Churches Urged To Support Children Programmes

The General Conference Associate Director of Children Ministry, Pastor Dr. Saustine Mfune has urged churches in the country to support children programs by among other things organising more Vacation Bible Experience (VBX) camps for children as they are great tools for molding children’s character and growing their spiritual life.

Dr. Mfune made the appeal on Sabbath 22nd December 2018, during the closing ceremony of a VBX camp which took place at Kawale Seventh-day Adventist Church from 16th to 22nd December 2018 in Lilongwe.

''Through VBX camps we impart Christian values to children at early stages of their lives thereby establishing a good foundation for them. The church on the other hand, begins to see value in children when it supports children programs. VBX camps cultivate a lot of interest even in non-Adventist children who later influence their parents to join the church'', he said.

Dr. Mfune further said children and parents whose children attend VBX, network and bond during such camps since they have common interest.

The Malawi Union director of Children Ministry, Emily Banda Egolet appealed to the children to always be prayerful and have a strong faith in God believing that no situation is too hard for Him.

''You only need to believe, and God will perform wonders for you. The God who healed me when I fell sick, will heal any situation for you, only if you believe. Always pray''. She told the children.

Pastor Dingani Mfune of Kawale district described the 2018 VBX as a life changing experience for both the children and the leaders.

''Memory verses, Bible stories, and lively music along with different stations that had crafts and Science lessons were all fused together to create a learning experience that left the children with smiles and a broader knowledge of God and His love for them'', he said.

He went on to explain that there is need for parents to invest in their children and VBX is just one way of doing that.

Over eighty children attended the Kawale VBX camp and three of them were non-Adventist.

One hundred children were also dedicated to the Lord on the same day in a ceremony that was conducted by Pastor Dr. Saustine Mfune. Quoting Proverbs 22:6 after dedicating the children, Dr.Mfune urged parents to spend quality time with their children and to seriously train them while they are young.

“If you don’t have time for your children, you will regret later in life that the devil had time for them and it will be too late to correct things'', he concluded.
