Malawi Union Conference of SDA Launches SYL
The Malawi Union Conference(MUC) of the Seventh-day Adventist church has launched a new Youth programme called Senior Youth Leadership (SYL), in the Adventist Youth (AY) ministry at a colourful ceremony which took place on the 17th of October 2020 at Living Way Guest House in Salima.
In his opening remarks, the guest of honour, Malawi Union Conference Youth Director, Dr Elphis Luwani while welcoming the delegates, urged the leaders who attended the meeting to remain faithful to their master, Jesus Christ.
"I want to commend the Malawi Union AY executive for the commitment shown to come up with this programme. I expect all leaders in our Union Conference to attain Senior Youth Leadership Award as it was with Master guide programme. You have to set an example to others," said Luwani.
Making his contribution, Ackim Chatsalira, who is Malawi Union AY Education Coordinator challenged the Adventist youth in Malawi to complete the programme without fear.
He said, "I know a lot of the youths are afraid of the new programme considering the portfolios' contents, but I urge all Master guides to grasp the course and complete it the way they did with master guide course".
Malawi Union Youth Programmes Director, Rollings Moyo on the other hand urged leaders to avoid keeping whatever they had learnt to themselves. He said the knowledge should also be shared to the grassroots.
With this new program introduced, which was symbolised by cutting of a ribbon by Dr Luwani, those who will be successfully completing this course will be leading Ambassadors and Young Adults while Master guides will be leading Adventurers and Pathfinders only.
In attendance also were delegates from the North Malawi Conference, Central Malawi Conference, and South Malawi Conference accompanied by their Youth Directors Pastor Alick Kaunda, Pastor Solomon Naliya, and pastor Edington Chapasuka respectively.
At the end, certificates were presented to those who attended the three-days training in the new curriculum.
